Cygnus is delighted to have been selected by the North-East and North Cumbria Child Health and Wellbeing Network to become a Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Strategy Site and roll out an offer of YMHFA training courses in our local community. Mental Health First Aid is an internationally recognised training course, designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis.
Thanks to generous external funding, including an allocation from NHS Charities Together, Amanda has recently completed the Youth Mental Health First Aid course and is now being trained to deliver YMHFA training courses to individuals and workplaces across our local area. This will enable many more people, from those working regularly with children and young people to parents and carers, to be equipped with the skills to support young people with their mental health and wellbeing.
Watch this space for details of the training courses on offer as they become available, with some of the places being fully subsidised by MHFA England. We hope to begin running courses from Spring 2022 and further information on how to sign up to attend will be given closer to the time.
If you know of any organisations that would benefit from staff or volunteers being trained in Youth Mental Health Fist Aid, or if you are working with individuals who may want to consider completing this qualification, please speak to Amanda, who would be happy to give more details and talk to those interested.
