Today marks the start of #16DaysOfActivism; an international event created to end violence against women and girls.
The 2024 theme of its UNiTE campaign is “Towards Beijing +30: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls.” 2025 marks 30 years since the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. This is the most comprehensive and transformative global agenda for the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Reviews are currently underway to report on progress over the past 30 years in the areas of concern. There is #NoExcuse for gender based violence.
November 25th also coincides with White Ribbon Day in the UK. White Ribbon also aims to prevent violence against women and girls by addressing its root causes. They work with men and boys to change long-established, and harmful, attitudes, systems and behaviours around rigid gender norms and masculinity that perpetuate inequality and violence.
